Community Kitchen Developer

In April 2024, we were awarded funding by Naturesave Trust to develop a community kitchen within the wider hub which can be used by a broad range of local people, from families to professional caterers. This has always been part of our vision, but escalating costs during the initial renovation period mean that we are now seeking additional funding to make this happen.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Research comparable community kitchen spaces across the UK to understand what it might be possible to achieve.
  • Research local needs and wants from a community kitchen space.
  • Work with our Community Food Coordinator to design the kitchen space.
  • Create an outline capital budget to realise this design.
  • Write a business plan for the first phase of the community kitchen’s operations, with the goal of making it self-sustaining.
  • Seek out potential funders for this project and submit successful funding bids.

About you

You will have:

  • A proven track record in community projects, including research, community consultation and fundraising.
  • A belief in the power of food to build community: addressing people’s basic needs as well as providing opportunities for connection.
  • A commitment to building resilient community in Buckfastleigh.

Our budget

We have a total of £2500 available for this role, which will be on a freelance basis.

For context, the indicative day rate for in-house freelance work which all core staff are currently paid is £150, though applicants may choose to allocate their time differently as long as the brief is fulfilled.

To apply

Please email Sophie at for further information and to apply.

We would ask applicants to submit a CV, and a covering letter or video which summarises their interest in this role, their relevant experience and a plan for how they would fulfil this brief.

Application deadline: Midday, Friday 7th June
